The findings are also "important for understanding the mechanisms of aging and the disease process," says Tsung Yin, another of the study authors. "This study shows that the gene that is expressed in cells but not the cells themselves is involved in how cancer is regulated. These molecules may have some positive effects; we don't know yet whether we are just finding out how they work and not making a major impact for decades on the human age-related diseases of aging." That's a concern for everyone, however, because the aging process is part of life, and all cells make proteins and other molecules that are required for life.
